4. First 360 on the flat

Kickturns on the nose

Kickturns on the nose, switch kickturns, whatever we want to call it, learning fine control over the nose is vital to a number of tricks we’ll be working on in the Progressing Programme.

Put your foot on your nose. Use techniques you learnt in the beginner course to kick turn on the nose. Review those now if you need to.

You should be able to comfortably rotate a quarter turn (90 degrees) both ways on the nose.

If you can rotate halfway 180 degrees or more you have mastered this skill.

The fakie 360 on the flat

Now combine the fakie revert and the nose kickturn to make a complete 360 whilst rolling (slowly at first).

Common mistakes

  • Turning back the way you’ve just come.

After you’ve turned, ensure you continue turning the same way! Don’t turn back the way you’ve come, or that will be a 0 degree rotation.

What next?

There will be a natural pause between each turn as you switch from turning on your tail to your nose. Reduce this delay until it is barely noticeable.

There are 4 ways you can turn 360.

  • Fakie backside (as above)
  • Fakie frontside
  • Backside (turn on nose first)
  • Frontside (turn on nose first)

Explore each way. Which feels easiest for you?

We’ll be using this skill to do powerslides, 180s, and 360s.
